What to check before buying a used Discovery
- Maintenance history, especially for the air suspension system if the unit has one.
- Condition of the 4x4 drivetrain and differentials.
- Actual mileage relative to the model year.
- Parts and service costs, which tend to run higher than mainstream Asian brands.
Because it is a European vehicle with more complex mechanics than many other SUVs on the market, a professional mechanical inspection is strongly recommended before closing the deal, especially on higher mileage units at the lower end of the price range.
Is a used Discovery worth buying in Costa Rica?
If your budget and intended use match what it offers, namely family space, genuine off-road ability and luxury SUV comfort, it can be a solid choice, particularly in the mid range of the available inventory. If lower running costs matter more, it is worth comparing against other used SUVs on the local market before deciding.
